Intelligence Engines

Five engines. One decision.

All five engines share the same live data feed and produce a single output. A weather change ripples through departure timing, confidence scoring, clothing advice, and stress rating simultaneously.

What Makes This Different

Commute Compute® is not another transit app. It is an open-source commuter intelligence system that renders a complete decision surface onto an 800x480 1-bit e-ink display. Everything a commuter needs is visible in a single glance from 1-2 meters away. No phone. No app switching. No scrolling.

Here is what no other commuter tool provides:

  • Single-glance intelligence on e-ink. The entire commute -- departure countdowns, weather preparation, coffee feasibility, journey confidence, sleep optimisation, and alternative transport costs -- rendered as one image. Readable from across a room.

  • Cumulative clock-time timeline on every leg card. Each transit leg shows both a relative countdown ("Next: 4, 12 min") and absolute clock-time stamps ("Dep 8:36am → Arr 8:52am") derived from millisecond-truth fields. The full journey reads forward in time across legs so the commuter can plan without mental arithmetic.

  • Stable journey selection inside a 5-minute window. A route-selection lock anchors the chosen journey shape, route identifiers, and per-leg minute contributions for 5 minutes -- preventing the dashboard from flipping between alternative routes mid-commute. The lock refuses to anchor under weak transit identity, so the natural cascade always provides a fresh pick when the lock cannot guarantee stability.

  • Five interconnected intelligence engines. CommuteCompute™, DepartureConfidence™, LifestyleContext™, SleepOptimiser™, and AltTransit™ work together. A weather change affects clothing suggestions, walking speed estimates, coffee feasibility, and confidence scoring simultaneously. They do not operate in isolation.

  • Sleep optimisation for next-day commute readiness. No other transit tool calculates your optimal bedtime and alarm time based on tomorrow's journey duration, your wake routine, and desired sleep hours.

  • Alternative transport cost estimation. When every configured public-transit service for the selected journey is cancelled, suspended, unavailable, or not running, the system calculates rideshare, e-scooter, and bike share costs with peak surge detection. Running-but-delayed services stay in the transit journey surface.

  • Commute stress scoring and lifestyle preparation. The system calculates apparent temperature, recommends umbrella/jacket/sunscreen, and provides a commute stress score. It tells you to bring layers before you step outside.

  • Melbourne Metro Tunnel awareness. Victoria train routing uses provider feed identity and station reachability checks so tunnel and City Loop assumptions are not hardcoded into the journey shape.

  • Guided setup via BLE provisioning. Pair via Bluetooth, run the Setup Wizard, and configure journey preferences through the guided web interface. First-time setup takes approximately 60-90 minutes including API key registration, managed storage connection, and device flashing.

  • Graceful offline degradation. When APIs are unreachable, the system falls back to cached data and static timetables. The display always shows something useful.

  • Fully open source under AGPL-3.0 (dual-licensed). The complete system -- engines, renderer, firmware, setup wizard -- is available for inspection, modification, and self-hosting. A commercial licence is also available for proprietary use.

Melbourne Metro Tunnel — Fully Supported

First-to-market support for Melbourne's once-in-a-generation infrastructure change. 5 new underground stations (Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall, Anzac), rerouted Pakenham/Cranbourne/Sunbury lines, and discontinued City Loop services. All handled automatically.
